Maintain Compliance
They support adherence to WHS regulations and industry standards, keeping your business on the right side of the law. Staying compliant also reassures clients and stakeholders that safety is a priority.
Improve Equipment Reliability
Regular pre-start inspections catch faults early, preventing breakdowns and costly repairs. Well-maintained equipment keeps operations running smoothly and avoids unexpected downtime.
Streamline Operations
They ensure tasks are carried out systematically, reducing errors and missed steps. A structured process helps teams work efficiently and keeps projects on schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions.
What is a pre-start checklist book & who needs one?
A pre-start checklist book is a printed record keeping tool that allows operators to inspect and document the condition of equipment or vehicles before use each day. It helps identify faults early, reduce the risk of accidents, and demonstrate compliance with WHS obligations. Pre-start books are commonly used in the construction, mining, and transport industries, and are suitable for any business that operates machinery, heavy vehicles, elevated work platforms, or site equipment. If your workers are required to carry out daily equipment checks, a pre-start book provides a simple, reliable way to record and store those inspections.
Can I customise my Pre-Start Checklists?
Yes. Custom pre-start books can be printed with your company logo, contact details, and any site specific branding. Beyond visual customisation, the layout itself can be tailored to reflect your equipment types, inspection sequences, and internal reporting requirements. This is particularly useful for businesses managing multiple sites or a mixed fleet, where a single standard format may not capture all relevant checks. Get in touch with the team to discuss your requirements and they can advise on the best approach for your volume and timeline.
Do pre-start checklist books help with WHS compliance?
Yes. Pre-start checklist books support compliance with Australian WHS regulations by providing a clear, dated record of equipment inspections carried out before each shift. When used as part of a broader safety management system, they can also contribute to meeting ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety standards. In the event of a workplace incident or a regulatory audit, completed pre-start books serve as documented evidence that due diligence was exercised. They do not replace a formal safety management plan, but they are a recognised and practical component of one.
How are budget pre-start books constructed?
Each pre-start book is assembled by hand at the AAA Print Group factory in Canning Vale, Perth. The books use duplicate NCR (No Carbon Required) carbonless paper, meaning every entry the operator writes on the top sheet automatically transfers to the copy beneath, no carbon paper required. This gives you two records per inspection: one for the operator and one for site records or management. The spine is taped for durability, keeping pages firmly bound through daily handling in tough site conditions. A writing shield is also included, which sits beneath each active set of pages to prevent impressions from transferring further through the book. The result is a clean, accurate record from the first page to the last.
