Frequently Asked Questions.
What paper stock should I choose for my business cards?
The right stock depends on the impression you want to give. Matt stock suits a modern, understated look and is easy to write on, which is handy for adding notes at networking events. Gloss stock makes colours and photography look vibrant, so it works well for creative or retail businesses. Uncoated stock has a natural, tactile feel that suits professional services wanting a more refined image. Heavier stocks, such as 400gsm or above, feel sturdier and are often chosen by businesses that want their card to stand out in a stack. If you are unsure, request a sample pack so you can feel the difference before deciding.
Should my letterhead be single sided or double sided?
Most businesses print letterheads single sided, since correspondence is generally read and filed on one side, and this keeps the paper light enough to feed easily through office printers. Double sided printing can work if you want to include terms and conditions, banking details, or a second language on the reverse, but it does require slightly heavier paper to prevent show through. If your letterhead includes a lot of colour or a background design, single sided printing usually gives a cleaner result. Consider how the letterhead will actually be used in your office, including whether it goes through laser or inkjet printers, before finalising the layout.
How do I make sure my logo looks sharp on printed stationery?
Supply your logo as a vector file, such as an EPS or AI, rather than a JPEG or PNG, so it can be scaled to any size without losing quality. If a vector file is not available, a high resolution PNG with a transparent background is the next best option, ideally at least 1000 pixels wide. Avoid logos pulled from websites, as these are usually low resolution and will appear blurry or pixelated once printed. If your logo has fine detail or small text, keep this in mind when placing it on a business card, since very small elements can lose clarity at that scale. We can review your logo file and advise if it is suitable before printing.
How do I choose between letterhead, compliment slips & envelopes?
A letterhead is essential if you send formal correspondence, quotes, or invoices and want a consistent, branded appearance. Compliment slips are useful for shorter notes, sending documents, or accompanying an invoice without needing a full letter format. Printed envelopes reinforce your brand from the moment an item is received and are worthwhile if you regularly post physical documents or marketing material. Not every business needs all three, so consider how you communicate with clients day to day. A trade business that emails most correspondence may only need letterheads for formal documents, while a professional services firm posting invoices regularly may benefit from the full set.
